SUB: ADVISORY ON USAGE OF AADHAAR IN HOSPITALITY SECTOR

Dear Member,

This is in reference to the attached advisory received from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), urging all hospitality establishments (hotels, guest houses and other accommodation units) to actively promote and encourage ‘offline verification’ of every Aadhaar that is presented in any form at the time of check-in by the guests. A link to access the advisory is given below:

As you are aware, as per government norms for hospitality industry, it is mandatory to verify the identity and residency status of guests checking into hospitality units from IDs such as Aadhaar, Driving License, Voter ID, PAN, Passport Etc. Out of these, Aadhaar is being used by the maximum number of guests as also the most accepted ID by the establishments. Aadhaar is a digital identity and its genuineness can be verified through offline verification.

Offline verification of Aadhaar can be performed by scanning the secure QR Code on Aadhaar Card, Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar PVC or m-Aadhaar. This is possible using an ‘Aadhaar QR Scanner Application’ that can be downloaded on Android and iOS mobile phones as well as Windows based applications from Google Play Store / Apple App Store. The scanner application is also available on UIDAI’s m-Aadhaar mobile for both Android and iOS phones.

The hospitality establishments are required to cross-check the details provided in Aadhaar Card / Letter / PVC / m-Aadhaar with that of the results of Aadhaar QR Code scanning to ensure the genuineness of the identity of the guest.

Members are hereby requested to take cognizance of the above said advisory and promote offline verification of every Aadhaar presented by the guests at the time of check-in and also train the front-office staff / reception staff at the establishments towards this.

This is for your kind information and further action.

With best regards,

Jaison Chacko
Secretary General
