About the Report: Despite the hospitality industry playing a pivotal role in economic development, employment generation, and cultural exchange, it faces several challenges such as workforce shortage, lack of skilled workforce, skill gap, high attrition, employee retention, and recent low enrollments into hospitality programs. A comprehensive analysis of the current state of hospitality education highlights systemic gaps, including outdated curricula, limited real-world exposure, and inadequate training infrastructure. Additionally, when we look at workforce management, there are issues like long working hours, poor work-life balance, improper employment policies, lack of growth opportunities, as well as unattractive entry-level pay packages. These altogether further aggravate the situation and also deter budding professionals from pursuing careers in hospitality.
To deliberate and understand these challenges and sync hospitality education and workforce policies with industry demands, the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) conducted the HR Summit, engaging stakeholders from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies. The discussions revolved around effective HR management practices and their impact on performance, innovations, and solutions for improving HR management in the industry and finally recommending reforms to improve retention and job satisfaction.
The report presents a host of actionable recommendations for each of the stakeholders.
