Subject: Measures to Address the Energy Crisis Faced by the Members of FHRAI

Dear Members,

Greetings from FHRAI!

This is regarding the shortage of fuel, especially the LPG.

As the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, the global energy market is experiencing significant volatility. With the supply chains currently restricted and global LNG supply reduced, we are seeing a direct impact on the availability and pricing of commercial LPG across India.

The government has recently invoked the Essential Commodities Act (2026) to prioritize fuel for households and essential transport. Consequently, the hospitality sector is facing a severe squeeze on commercial LPG cylinders, with severe supply cuts in some regions and prices surging in the secondary market.

FHRAI is taking all possible measures to provide much needed relief to its members from the impact of the crisis and the same is enumerated as the following:

  1. Immediately after the order issued by the Petroleum Ministry prioritizing the LPG supply for domestic consumption, on 5th March 2026, we sent a representation to the Union Petroleum Minister, highlighting the importance of hospitality sector for employment and national economy.
  2. This was followed up with our representations dated 9 March, 10 March and 12 March 2026 to the Central Petroleum Minister and Secretary, Tourism Minister and the Minister for New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs.
  3. FHRAI leadership have held meetings with Ministers and senior officials in different Ministries, seeking uninterrupted supply of commercial LPG to the hospitality industry

To help your establishment navigate this crisis and avoid temporary closure, we advise implementing the following operational shifts immediately:

  1. Conserve Fuel and Gas: Conservation of fuel and gas will help stay operational longer and also manage higher costs.
  2. Shift to a "Crisis Menu": Reduce the strain on your gas reserves by auditing your menu for high gas consumption items.
  3. Transition to Electric Alternatives: Where possible, reduce your reliance on gas by integrating electric appliances like Induction, Microwaves, electric rice cookers, kettles, and convection ovens to offset the need for gas burners.
  4. Adjust Operating Hours: If your gas stock is critical, consider restricting service to peak hours only.

We strongly urge you to avoid panic buying as hoarding further can destabilize the market and can invite regulatory scrutiny.

The Federation is in constant communication with the Government and other concerned agencies to effectively address this crisis situation.

We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.

Stay resilient,

Yours sincerely,

Jaison Chacko
Secretary General
